If new bill passes, passports or IDs will be required to purchase SIM cards in Kenya

After a rash of hate-propagating SMS messages were sent via cell phones in Kenya following the aftermath of last year’s hotly contested elections in kenya, a new bill in parliament could require all users of cell phones in Kenya register their SIM card purchases with proof a valid ID or passport. Currently, no ID is required to purchase a SIM card in Kenya and parliament is trying to close this loophole through this bill.
