Changes have been proposed to the E-Verify system. On May 8th 2008, U.S. Rep. Paul Broun introduced a bill in congress, H.R. 6008, also known as “IMPROVES E-Verify Act of 2008”, that will address some loopholes to the system;
Here’s a summary of the proposals:
- Allowing immediate pre-screening of prospective employees
- Allowing the screening of current employees
- Providing immunity to employers who legally use the program
- Denying protection for businesses that knowingly use this program fraudulently
- Changing the Spanish language mandate
- Making the program permanent
