Thousands of Africans forced to leave China because of new visa rules
About 100 stranded in Macau because they cannot afford plane tickets to leave
Approximately 10,000 Africans living in the southern chinese city of Guangzhou have been forced to leave after a new policy in effect has caused several to have their visas cancelled or their renewal applications denied.
A lot of Africans go to China on flexible “F” visas that are approved for six months at a time and run small businesses there. Now, the only visas that the Chinese government is approving are 15-day tourist visas.
An official with the Chinese government is reported as saying that they are enhancing “security” ahead of the 2008 summer olympic games in Beijing.
