Approximately 500 Kenyans living in the Dallas Fort Worth area gathered for a peace service this evening at the Highland Park Presyberian Church in Highland Park, Dallas, Texas.

The prayer service was convened by Rev. Dr. Cyprian Kimathi Guchienda, Pastor of All Nations Ministry Highland Park Presbyterian Church assisted by several pastors from the area including Pastor Shadrack Ruto of Upendo Baptist Church, Pastor Philip Mwonga of International Harvest Church , Pastor John Opiyo of Fort Worth and several other pastors from around the area and the United States. The service began with joyful songs of worship and praise followed by an emotional recital of the national anthem.

The pastors hoped that this would be the beginning of a dialogue within the Kenyan community here in the United States and they vowed to step up to the challenge.

The christian community back home was also challenged to take a more prominent role in addressing injustices suffered by their congregations.

The service ended with a candle lighting ceremony to symbolise peace and unity.

It is our hope that this will be a new beginning for our community here in North Texas for all of us to come together not necessarily to agree on everything, but to dialogue in a civil manner and hopefully find a common thread among us upon which we can build a stronger, thriving community.

  1. I mourn for my homeland. Seeing what’s happening in my home town of Kericho is too much for my mind to adequately take in. God be with our friends and families in the midst of this.
